Benjamin Franklin as a Scientist

You just clicked on my Van de Graaf generator. I can use it to make sparks and do some great electrostatic experiments. Maybe you've seen pictures of kids who are putting their hands on these generators--and how their hair stands on end!

The American scientist and inventor Benjamin Franklin is remembered for his early work with electricity. Here's a page where you can learn about him--and the work of a couple of other "electric" scientists!

Here are some books about electricity, electrical experiments, and an inventor who helped bring electricity into American homes.

Magnetism and Electricity, by Robert Friedhoffer, Franklin Watts, 1992

Batteries, Bulbs, and Wire, by David Glover, Kingfisher Books, 1993

Thomas Alva Edison: Great Inventor, by David A. Adler, Holiday House, 1990
